Adopt-A-Park

Adopt-A-Park is a public service program for volunteers who are interested in cleaning up Burnsville's parks. It is an excellent way for residents and organizations to make a personal contribution to the community.

How the Program Works

Residents, community groups, churches or businesses pick up litter for their "adopted" park multiple times each year during the months of April through September. The City asks that the Adopt-A-Park group agrees to a minimum three-year commitment.

Requested Clean-Up Schedule

April and May: Once a Month

June, July and August: Twice a Month

September: Once a Month

Clean-ups are especially important in early spring after the snow melts, and in the fall before it snows.

The City can help choose a park to adopt. Program participants under the age of 18 must have an adult supervising the adoption and clean-up events.

What to Expect on Clean-Up Day

It's important to spend time planning your clean-up events. Here are some helpful tips to make the day efficient and fun for all participants:

• Arrange to pick up trash bags at Burnsville City Hall (100 Civic Center Parkway) prior to your clean-up.
• If you have a group, consider assigning work teams and leaders.
• Many groups find it better to carpool to the park to avoid vehicles parked on the street.
• Estimate the amount of time for your park clean-up and agree on a meeting place before and after work is done.
• Arrange for pickup of filled trash bags prior to, or right after your clean-up events by contacting the Burnsville Maintenance Facility.

Why Get Involved

Litter is unsightly. It destroys the natural aesthetics of our beautiful parks and city. A litter-free community is inviting to visitors, residents and businesses. Keeping these areas clean could not be done without the generous efforts of volunteers.

Litter is also expensive. The City hires seasonal workers to empty trash cans and pick up litter year-round. Volunteers help save tax dollars, and get a sense of pride for keeping parks and the community clean.
