Local Transit Agencies

There are several mass transit routes that operate in the Burnsville area. Visit the links below to find information on schedules, fares, rider tips and travel advisories.

Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA): The MVTA is the public transportation agency for Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Prior Lake, Rosemount, Shakopee and Savage.

Metro Transit: Metro Transit is the transportation resource for the Twin Cities and is one of the largest transit systems in the country. 


Park & Ride Locations

The MVTA operates Park & Ride lots throughout its five member cities. Passengers may park their cars free of charge and board a bus, carpool or vanpool. Visit the MVTA's website to find Park & Ride locations in other cities.

Burnsville Transit Station: Located at 100 East Highway 13 (at Highway 13 and Nicollet Avenue just east of I-35W)
The transit station is the largest Park & Ride in the Twin Cities Metro Area. The station features 1,300 parking spaces, an indoor climate-controlled waiting area, bus pass sales, and a nearby day care center.

Heart of the City Park & Ride: Located at 126th St. and Pillsbury Avenue
This Park & Ride features 370 parking spaces and an indoor climate-controlled waiting area. It is adjacent to all facilities in the Heart of the City. 


METRO Transit Lines

The METRO system is a transit network developed by Metro Transit. The system consists of light-rail transit (LRT) and bus-rapid transit (BRT). Each line is identified with a color name. Two METRO lines are currently accessible or being developed in the Burnsville area and will be operated through Metro Transit.

METRO Red Line: The METRO Red Line provides bus service from the Apple Valley Transit Station to the Mall of America, with additional stops at 147th Street and 140th Street in Apple Valley and the Cedar Grove station in Eagan. The Red Line connects to the METRO Blue Line and beyond which can take riders to Minneapolis.  

METRO Orange Line: The METRO Orange Line is a bus rapid transit service that runs from provide fast, accessible and frequent service to Burnsville to and from Bloomington, Richfield and downtown Minneapolis. Station locations in Burnsville include Burnsville Heart of the City Station and I35W & Burnsville Parkway Station.
